During our visit to Worbak village in Nabire Papua a year ago, we found the village to be relatively quiet with limited economic activities, mainly centered around traditional markets.
However, we also discovered that the village, along with other coastal villages in Nabire district, has untapped natural resources, including coconut. Despite the abundance of coconuts in the area, they are often left unused and unsold due to high transportation costs.
The village of Worbak has come alive after the training that was conducted last year by Kaluku Community Development team. The people of Worbak Village are now busy processing coconuts into white copra and shell charcoal.
On march 5th 2023, they celebrated the success of the first export of two containers of high quality copra to India. This success was managed by the Sisandei Maju Bersama (SMB) Producers Cooperative in Worbak, Makimi District, Nabire Regency, and it has opened up the opportunity for the village to produce copra and other coconut-derived products, providing welfare and jobs for the villagers.
Congratulation. Torang bisa!
